Chevron Oil Spill – Take Responsibility!!

By David M Handelman On July 28, 2009 Under
CSR, Ecuadorians vs Chevron Texaco, Environmental Issues

Chevron Corporation has maintained that despite the upcoming legal decision against it in Ecuador, it will fight the decision for years to come and not pay the judgment against it.

“We’re not paying and we’re going to fight this for years if not decades into the future,” said Chevron spokesman Don Campbell.

Chevron has been busy with smear ads, lobbying the US government, spinning the case and evidence, playing the victim, and doing everything in its power to deny its culpability.

On their website, Chevron currently claims:  “We are systematically implementing performance standards at our existing operations to minimize emissions, discharges and waste and to promote responsible waste management practices.”  Yet, Chevron is not willing to take responsibility for the fact that Texaco did not live up to these standards.  Chevron has not denied that Texaco dumped its formation waters into the forest, rather than re-injecting them into the ground, as was the industry standard at the time.  This was a cost saving measure on Texaco’s part – and a big contributor to the problems that led to the pending law suit.

Wouldn’t it be refreshing if Chevron could actually take responsibility for its actions? Wouldn’t it be nice, if Chevron’s actions in this lawsuit matched the spirit of its own decrees on its website?  Why can’t Chevron stop the deflecting and denial and offer a settlement?

If you agree, sign our petition.  Tell Chevron that you want it to be responsible!!

Greetings,

My name is Bill Hawthorne, and I represent maacenter.org, a leading web resource for asbestos exposure and mesothelioma cancer information. Our organization is dedicated to increasing awareness of the terrible health consequences of asbestos exposure.

I found your site through a search and decided to contact you because of its high environmental and green presence which is extremely important in our movement. The promotion of how buildings should now be built using sustainable green products to avoid asbestos and mesothelioma as well as the awareness of past buildings and preventative steps in avoiding asbestos exposure are extremely important. My goal is to get a resource link on your site or even to provide a guest posting to be placed.

I look forward to hearing from you. Please feel free to check out our website. Thank you for your time and consideration.
