Are cell phones killing the bees?
New evidence has come to light which suggests that cell phones and the waves that they emit, may in fact be contributing to the demise of worldwide bee populations.
This is scary, because bees pollinate our crops… and if there are no bees to pollinate crops, than there will be no crops. And if there are no crops, than there will be no food. And the problem is happening both in North America and Europe.
How does a cell phone kill the bees? The theory holds that the emissions from cell phones may interrupt the bees’ navigation sense. This means that the bee gets lost, can’t find its hive and ends up dying wherever it is.
This would help explain why a recent scary trend which has been named, Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) has been taking place. When this occurs, almost the entire colony just disappears and is never seen again.
Other possible causes of CCD being researched include mites, pesticides, global warming and genetically modified crops. However, it is seems that this latest theory may be the most likely.
So what can we, as concerned global citizens do to help the bees? Well, the quick answer would be to stop using your cell phone. Unfortunately, I don’t think that is the answer, and I don’t think that cell phone use will decline any time soon.
So, please spread the word as much as you can! Tell friends and family that the world’s bees need your help! Call and write your cell phone company, and your cell phone manufacturer. Urge them to fund some research and development into this issue. Perhaps we can find a way to make our phones a little more bee friendly.
